CURRENT PROJECTS

Water School Uganda has grown tremendously since 2007, bringing our program to tens of thousands of households through widespread exposure in schools, churches, hospitals and other community groups. Full integration of the program in a community is the goal of Water School and Uganda serves as an exemplary model of our strategy for intervention.

Kisoro WS Project

Location: Kisoro District, South-West Region No. of Schools: 25

Located in southern Uganda, this is where it all began. Three full time staff members have trained hundreds of trainers who take the message to communities of Kisoro District. Thousands are now using the Water School program and spreading it through the district. The project will be considered completed at the end of 2012 and staff will be redeployed.

Kiwoko Hospital WS Project

The present project is Phase III, whose overall goal is to improve the health of 100% of the population of 44 villages in Nakaseke district Kikamulo sub/county (population 24, 780) – through education in health and sanitation using SODIS as the water purification methodology. The project will focus enhance the prevention of diarrhea through making safe water available from 1056 - 2056 homes by the end of 2012.

Busia WS Project

Location: Busia District, Border of Uganda and KenyaNo. of Schools: 7

The project’s goal is to reduce on the prevalence of waterborne diseases by 20% in Busia District. Specifically, Water School aims to increase the number of household beneficiaries from 3300 to 6180 and the number of schools from 7-22 by the end of 2012. Promotion of the program will also take place at 5 selected health centres.

Otal WS Project

Location: Nebbi District Western Rift Valley, West NileNo. of Schools: 2

The project is in phase III, and its 2012 overall goal is to enroll 950 new households and 3 schools. Create and maintain strong network and advocacy to promote community awareness and practice of SODIS, improved hygiene and sanitation.

Warr Aluka WS Project

Location: Nebbi District Western Rift Valley, West NileNo. of Schools: 1

Project has focused on enrolling new households from 960 to 1800 and 4 new schools by the end of 2012. Creating and maintaining strong networks with local government and 5 health centres in advocacy to promote community awareness on Water School Program.

Amor WS Project

Location: Banks of River Nile in Nebbi DistrictNo. of Schools: 3

Project’s overall 2012 goal is to enrol 700 Household and 1546 children from 2 schools shall have access to clean drinking water using SODIS, improved sanitation facilities and reduced illness of water related diseases.

Adusi WS Project

It’s in phase III of the implementation. It’s targeting to enroll 1000 new household and 4 schools by the end of 2012. Increase the involvement of the Local Leaders in the promotion of clean and safe water for life from the current 100 to 170 by December. To hold a monthly community and school dialogue for water for life, hygiene and sanitation. Increase involvement of the health, water, and Education Department in the District in the implementation of the safe water for life initiative. Increase the visibility of SODIS within the community and Schools.

Otatai WS Project

It’s the Phase II of the Project. Project targets to train and equip additional 2500 households selected from 10 villages and 5 schools with SODIS knowledge, improved hygiene by end of 2012. Build a strong network advocacy for SODIS, improved hygiene and sanitation in the target communities and schools.

Ngora WS Project

It’s the Phase II of the Project. Project targets to train and equip additional 2500 households selected from 10 villages and 5 schools with SODIS knowledge, improved hygiene by end of 2012. Build a strong network advocacy for SODIS, improved hygiene and sanitation in the target communities and schools.

Busiro North WS Project

Phase III of the project implementation. Overall goal is to Enrol 1750 children from 7 Primary schools and 1500 peer promoters from 52 villages by the end of 12 months. Increase the involvement of local leaders in the promotion of all the safe water, Hygiene and sanitation. Conduct advocacy campaigns for Safe Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and SODIS practice in the target Communities.

Dei and Koch WS Project

Location: Dei and Koch - Nebbi DistrictNo. of Schools: 2

Dei and Koch project areas Phase 11 targeted 1000 households but reached 829 by September 2011 from the sampled five Villages of Dei and the 12 villages of Koch and two Primary Schools. This accounts for less than 10% of the total households and Schools in Panyimur Sub County and there is need to scale up to at least thirty percent of the households and schools. The 2012 year plan will increase household usage of the program from 829 to 2848 to raise the percentage of households reached to above 36.4%.

Pajur Alala WS Project
